Subject: [UNCLASSIFIED] Trading Standards budget consultation

Dear Parish / Town Clerk,

The County Council have started consulting on a number of budget proposals for the 2018-19 financial year. This includes a proposal to reduce the Trading Standards budget by £600,000. The current Trading Standards net budget is £1,400,000 and the proposal amounts to a 43% reduction in the Service.

I have attached the proposal & Equalities Impact Assessment from the recent County Council Cabinet meeting papers – the full Cabinet meeting papers can be accessed here . The proposals are item number 6 on the agenda.

If implemented this proposal will significantly diminish protection for consumers and legitimate businesses across the community. As a stakeholder of this Service, this may be something your organisation may wish to comment upon.

You can respond to the consultation at webpage – it is open until 1 December 2017.

I am also aware that an e-petition has been set up and would be grateful if you could spread the word amongst your Councillors and community contacts and encourage those that wish to, to sign up. Please feel free to circulate to anyone you see fit and ask them to do likewise.

If it would be useful I am happy to discuss this matter further.

Yours sincerely,

David Hedger
